How to Live by the Beat of Your Heart
Siddhi Ma
Your heart has been with you from the very beginning.
It was the first organ to develop into a functioning organ, the first to begin beating. And from the moment you arrived on this earth, it has been faithfully accompanying you—day after day, night after night—beating approximately 100,000 times a day.
And yet, how often do we truly listen to it?
We were taught to think of the heart primarily as a pump—a magnificent organ responsible for circulating blood throughout the body. Yet our understanding of the heart continues to deepen. It has its own intrinsic nervous system and communicates continuously with the brain and the rest of the body. It also produces and participates in the regulation of important hormones and neurochemicals, including oxytocin, which is associated with bonding, connection, and social interaction.
The heart is not simply keeping us alive.
It is intimately connected to how we feel, relate, connect, communicate, and experience life.
Perhaps this is why we so naturally speak of a broken heart, a heavy heart, or following our heart. Long before science began exploring these connections, our language already recognized that the heart is more than a physical organ.
So, what might it mean to live by the beat of your heart?
It asks something of us.
It asks for courage.
The courage to listen inwardly when the world is telling us what we should do.
The courage to establish boundaries that honor and protect what truly matters.
The courage to make time for ourselves—not as an indulgence, but as nourishment.
The courage to care for our body, our spirit, our soul, and our capacity for joy.
And perhaps, most importantly, the courage to remain in an intimate relationship with our SELF.
In this class, we will create a space to pause, listen, and explore what it means to live more consciously from the heart.
Through reflection, simple practices, breathing techniques, physical exercises, and specific finger positions (mudras), we will explore ways to support the well-being of the heart and cultivate a deeper connection with ourselves.
Together, we will make space for a few simple questions:
What is my heart telling me?
What have I stopped listening to?
What might change if I began to live a little more by the beat of my heart?
Perhaps your heart has been speaking to you all along.
Maybe it is time to listen.
