Whenever humans celebrate the joy of life transitions like weddings, baby showers, and
graduations, we love to celebrate together with our family and friends. Sharing these events
together as a community combines the meaningful rituals with playful moments of carefree
jubilance.
Joy is an expression of the Divine within. Charles Schaefer, an American psychologist who was
known as the “Father of Play Therapy,” said, “We are never more fully alive, more completely
ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything than when we are playing.” When we play,
we can let go of any filters that restrict our actions to orderly and dignified ways and, instead,
express the freedom, creativity and joy of our authentic selves, of our Divine Nature.
We don’t need to wait for special occasions to joyfully play together as a community. Play is a
sacred act, a spiritual practice that serves us all. Sharing joyful time together as we each allow
our inner child come out and play is not only healing for our own heart and soul, it also allows
us to create happy, meaningful and loving relationships that sustain healthy communities.
Once forged through playful, happy times, these strong, joyful, loving and affirming
relationships are there when we seek to move creatively through challenges with kindness,
understanding and flexibility.
How would you like to play today? Go hiking or bicycling in the spring sunshine? Play a
cooperative game where everyone wins? Dance wildly with abandon for 30 seconds? Laugh at
silly jokes? Whom will you invite out to play? In joy, we are happy together!
Love and light,
Rev Pam
