One of my favorite Christmas carols is “We Three Kings of Orient Are.” It recounts the story of the three Kings, or wise men, who journeyed from the east to worship the newborn baby Jesus. The chorus is
“Star of wonder, star of night.
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding.
Guide us to Thy perfect light.”
As the winter solstice approaches, we are all looking towards the light that will lead us to the “Perfect Light.” The birth of Jesus and His life demonstrated the power and potential of the Christ Consciousness birthed in human form. His life and the guidance of the Christ Consciousness within our own awareness are our own inner star of wonder that can lead us on a new journey.
When we start a new journey, a new year, we have the option to begin with a fresh, new beginner’s mind. Do you remember your joy and excitement the first time you ventured out after a snowstorm? The once familiar landscape was covered with a white blanket of snow. Perhaps your feet, protected by insulated new boots, penetrated down into the snow. You had to find a new way to walk! Your hands, feeling a bit awkward in warm mittens, were soon picking up some of the white stuff so you could taste the cold and fluffy snow. Perhaps you built a snowman or made angels as you flapped your arms in the snow. Or maybe you had a sled or saucer to slide down a hill. Everything seemed new and part of an adventure.
Our first adventure in the snow is with a beginner’s mind. All the old rules, limiting beliefs and old paradigms that governed our past give way to seeing the world from a new perspective. The new journey provides space for unprecedented ideas, opportunities and a new way of being in the world. We are each a beloved son or daughter of the Most High capable of demonstrating the qualities of God as we live our earthly lives. When we align our hearts and minds with the Spiritual Truth of who we are, with the Christ Consciousness within us, we can see life in a new way. We are guided to choose the path that allows our inner gifts of love, peace and joy to manifest. We are ready to begin with the gift of a new journey.
