INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE
INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO FLOW
Rev. Pam Cosby Brandman
When was the last time you remember time standing still while you were doing something that
you love? Everything seems to fit together perfectly. We are One with the Universe, with
Nature, with our bodies, minds and hearts. There is no tension, no resistance from within or
without. This is the state of consciousness that psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi calls flow,
an “optimal experience” of “joy, creativity, the process of total involvement with life.”
Perhaps you have experienced flow as you skied down a mountain, one with the snow, the
trees and the sky, your body moving without conscious thought as it responds to the terrain.
Perhaps you experienced flow as you played with your children, enjoying their total joy as they
laugh and play and discover a new world. Perhaps you experienced flow as you painted the
mountains rising above a beautiful lake, sang an inspiring song, cooked a new recipe or created
a graceful architectural design. Perhaps you experienced flow while you were lost in
conversation with a dear friend.
This month as we explore curiosity as our superpower, our curiosity calls us to seek and
discover our true Self, our Higher Self and our Divine Purpose. Each of us is endowed by our
Creator with unique talents that we can develop and share with the world, with all of humanity.
When we are in tune with our connection with the One Source of Life and our unique
expression of that One Life, we and let go and let Divine Creativity and Joy flow through us in
this perfect moment. It is as if we are in total harmony with all that is!
During February, the month of Love, consider that we experience flow when we love what we
are doing. Kahlil Gibran eloquently described working with love in his book of poetry called The
Prophet:
“When you work you are a flute through whose heart the whispering of the hours turns
to music. . . . And what is it to work with love? It is to weave the cloth with threads
drawn from your heart, even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth. . . “
Love and light,
Rev. Pam
