One thing I have always been able to do is create a long To Do list that is full of more ideas and tasks than I can ever find time available to complete. That cherished To Do list keeps me organized and productive, allowing me to accomplish many “important” tasks and feel that I have put in a good day’s work.
There is one thing, though, on that To Do list that is too often deleted in favor of another “more important” task. That one thing is rest. I don’t just mean getting enough sleep – although that is important for our physical health. I don’t mean a busy “day off” racing through a shopping mall, getting the yardwork completed or even a marathon day to see Disneyland in one day. What I mean is time without an agenda to just “Be.”
Our society admires people who are always busy and work hard. Have you heard the adage, “If you want something done, ask a busy person?” But how do we know what is the best thing to do? Glorifying over-work and busyness and saying things like, “I’ll rest when I am dead,” are prescriptions to traps us on the treadmill that keeps us busy but doesn’t take us anywhere.
As we let go of the siren’s call to constant motion and overwork, we make room for time to be still. It may take time for our racing thoughts to come to a halt. We may have to learn to be patient with ourselves and resist each urge to rush off and do the next “important task” that fills our mind with a sense of urgency. With stillness and spiritual practice, we can open our inner door and listen to the still small voice of Spirit within.
In that stillness, we open ourselves to the mystical guidance of Spirit. We move into the Infinite Peace of just “Being” where time and space seem to stand still. There is perfect balance. All of life is One, including us. Peace and joy flow naturally. There is no pushing or pulling, just “Being.” It is here in this stillness that Divine Intuition is revealed. It is here in this stillness that our bodies, minds and spirit find rest and wholeness. Our soul is restored, One with the Universe. Take time to rest now!
Love and light,
Rev Pam
