Are you living your life – really living your life – or playing it safe and just getting through each day? In his book, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment, Eckhart Tolle said, “It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.”
In life there are certainly peak moments when an unusual confluence of events and people with our own heightened awareness make us feel fully alive. We may remember meeting our soulmate for the first time, the birth of our first child, or achieving a long-time career or personal goal. We remember those “Kodak moments” as milestones and inflection points as times when we discovered our true essence, times that color the rest of our lives. Those vivid memories and feelings are touchpoints when we feel fully connected with the Universe, with the Divine, with life and the essence of who we are.
In between these infrequent peak moments is where we live most of our lives. When we tune into living everyday wonder, we see the wonder in every day just waiting for us to see it, to recognize it and to transform our whole perspective of life.
Think of a pine cone and imagine taking out a single seed from its protective covering. In that seed is also the future seedling and the young tree that might become a Christmas tree adorning someone’s home, logs for a fireplace or a tall and stately 100-year old pine tree towering over the landscape and glistening with its shimmering white coat of new fallen snow.
See the ingredients of New Year’s Day tamales set out in the kitchen as a family gathers in advance to simmer the chicken or pork with just the right seasonings, mix the masa, spread the dough on dried corn husks, add the filling, and fold all the ingredients into tamales. The tamales will be enjoyed after steaming along with a favorite salsa. This is a wonderful moment of family tradition, the alchemy of cooking a festive meal, and sharing the lovingly prepared tamales with family and friends.
When we live in everyday wonder, our whole life becomes resplendent with beauty everywhere. Join with us at the Center for Spiritual Living Tahoe-Truckee in 2022 as we explore Living Everyday Wonder.
Love and light,
