Over the past few weeks, we have looked closely at the practice of visioning. Visioning involves stilling our minds, opening ourselves to divine inspiration and discerning what seeks to emerge into form, without any preconceived ideas or limitations. Through visioning, we can access the infinite wisdom and intelligence of the Ultimate Reality and allow It to flow through us, as us, to the degree that we set aside our ego-based need for control.
That last part, setting aside our need for control, is the hardest aspect of visioning for most people. From early childhood on, we are taught to control our emotions, behavior and speech. As teenagers, we seek greater control over our choices in food, music, clothing, and friends. Adults exercise even greater levels of control through their choice of partners, job and lifestyle. The idea of relinquishing control and “surrendering” ourselves to Spirit goes against a pattern of thought most of us have spent a lifetime cultivating.
Challenging or not, that is exactly what we must do. We must dig down deep in our hearts and find the courage to say “Yes!” to God, embrace the vision we receive and make it our own. It may not be easy at first. Such a radical shift in perspective is likely to bring up old fears and insecurities. But none of us is in this situation alone. The Ultimate Power of the universe is in front of us and clearing the way, It is all around us and supplying us with everything we need, It is behind us and providing us strength and encouragement to see us through.
And as we release our control and allow God to operate through us, as us, we find ourselves transformed. We see and feel our old self slowly slip away and our Divine Self shining through.
What a glorious change for the better!
